MANITOBA HOMECOMING 2010 - MAAS QUILT COMPETITION
Theme: CELEBRATING HOMECOMING
To recognize Manitoba Homecoming 2010, a special quilt competition in association with the Manitoba Association of Agricultural Societies (MAAS) is taking place with the theme of the quilt to be "Celebrating Homecoming".
Prize:$2,800 first prize
- Winning Quilt will be at the disposal of Homecoming 2010 for the year 2010
- Winning Quilt will be displayed in the Manitoba Legislature, and at the Olympics in Manitoba House
- May be displayed in other prominent places as identified by the Committee from Homecoming 2010
- Winning Quilt will be unveiled at the MAAS Conference 2010
- District Judging will take place in November 2009 (venues determined by # of entries within each district, type of facility for displaying the quilts, and partnerships of Ag Societies within each district).
- Ag Societies who partner to hold a separate “Homecoming 2010” regional quilt competition within their district are eligible for grant money up to 80% of the cost of the event by applying for the Special Education Grant. Contact the Superintendent of Ag Societies in advance for approval.
- Benefit to holding the regional event is the inclusion of the Ag Society(s) and the regional quilt event in a national and international campaign (promotional value up to $10,000)
Homecoming 2010 Quilt Rules
First prize will go to the quilt that best expresses this theme and quilts will be judged on design and look.
1.Must be double bed size (min. 74” x 84”)
2.Quilts may be hand sewn or machine sewn.
3.Can be done by group or individual.
4.No kits.
5.If maker and designer and/or quilter are different, credit must be given to all three parties.
6.Entrant is responsible for his/her own insurance on the quilt. The sponsors, societies, and MAAS will not be liable for damage or loss.
7.Entrant is responsible for the delivery and pickup of their quilt.
8. The Winning Quilt will be at the disposal of Homecoming 2010 for the year for display and travel. Unless a suitable location is found where it can hang permanently, it will be returned after that year with no guarantee of its condition.
9.All quilters MUST REGISTER and registrations MUST be returned NO LATER than FEBRUARY 28, 2009. Registration forms can be found on the Homecoming 2010 website.
10.Quilts must be ready for judging by November 1, 2009.
11. Regional competitions will take place in November and the final competition will take place in December with the unveiling of the quilt in January. Quilts that make it to the final must be available for viewing at the MAAS conference in January, 2010 until after Saturday night banquet – approximately 10:30 p.m.
