Culture Days Coming to Manitoba
April 21, 2010
Yesterday, across the county – from coast, to coast, to coast – mini Culture Days celebrations took place.
Culture Days is a nation-wide celebration of art and culture that will be happening September 24 to 26. It will be a weekend where galleries and art spaces will be open and free to the public so people and artists can connect.
This will be the first time Culture Days happens in Winnipeg and the public got a taste of what the celebration will be like at the Winnipeg Art Gallery during yesterday’s press conference and concert. There were performances by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra sting quartet, a scene from the Prairie Theatre Exchange’s presentation of Glorious!, Eagle and Hawk, French singer Daniel ROA, and opera singer Maria Luz Alvarez. The College Regional Gabrielle Roy High School Jazz Band attracted many passers with their performance in front of the WAG while an artist from the Graffiti Gallery used spray paint on canvas to create a work of art.
Keep your ears open for more about Culture Days in the upcoming weeks. A lot is being planned for the weekend, including Nuit Blanche – an event that that originated in Paris and is now happening in Winnipeg for the very first time. It will be a fun and funky indoor and outdoor around-the-clock showcase of the art and culture Winnipeg has to offer.
